A New Supernatural Renaissance – Part Two
God Is Raising Up Renaissance Men and Women
These times of supernatural renaissance of the Spirit will roughly parallel the original Renaissance in many ways. Therefore, it would behoove us to understand the original Renaissance. Here is a little more background for you:
The traditional view of the Renaissance focuses more on the early aspects of the Renaissance. Many scholars promote the idea or concept that the Renaissance was a break from the past—a new thing. This coming new supernatural renaissance of the Spirit will break from the current unfruitful and outdated models of “doing church”—God will do a new thing. Hear my heart: we need the church; I love the church, (at least I pray for this grace). But my concern is that the church has become a bit anemic, wishy-washy, and or spiritually weak. In this coming new supernatural renaissance, “doing church” is going to be a thing of the past because we, as the Body of Christ, will learn to allow the power of God to manifest within our midst. In fact, the church will have no choice; the power of God (in the form of the Holy Spirit) will invade our edifices. The church must learn to discern, and then to submit and allow the Spirit of God to rule and reign over the church.
Happy Clappy Christians
Many Renaissance historians today focus more on the medieval aspects of human society and how the first renaissance was an extension of the Middle Ages. The Middle Ages was a period of history noted for cruelty and inhumane practices by individuals, by nations, and, yes, even by the church as a whole. Dare I venture to state that, we as, the modern-day church in all of its incarnations have also been cruel, unmerciful and inhumane to one another. (I am painting with a very broad brush here; not every ministry or individual falls into this category).
We (churchy people-happy clappy Christians) are one of the only institutions that eat their sick and shoot the wounded among us. (Perhaps that is a bad analogy)? When we (churchy people) gossip, we gnash or feed upon our brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ, which brings us into alignment with the accuser of the brethren. And when we do these things then we become guilty of operating in that same spirit as (the accuser of the brethren) or white witchcraft. But these things will soon change because there is a new supernatural renaissance coming to the church. God is going to pour out His Spirit of love and mercy, and we (the Body) are going to catch it. The church will soon be transformed into a “safe haven” for the lost and broken hearted—and the unsaved too.
The Fall of Constantinople
The Renaissance got started in the fourteenth century in Florence, Italy. At that time Florence had unique social and political structure with a dominant family and a healthy migration of Greek scholars to the region after the fall of Constantinople. Historians theorize that all of these things were catalysts that began, formed, and propelled the Renaissance to gain traction in other cities in Italy and Europe. This is a picture of how a few individuals, a family unit, can change the whole world.
As a result of this new supernatural renaissance that is coming upon us, God will use a few people, families, who will be supernaturally positioned to transform not just a nation, not just a city, not just a community, but who will transform the whole world (for God’s glory alone).
The intellectual basis of the Renaissance was a version of humanism and concepts of Roman and classical Greek philosophy and idealism. One famous Greek philosopher said that man is the measure of all things. We, (as Christian thinkers), know that’s not true. Jesus is the measure of all things. However, in today’s society there is an unholy emphasis on worshiping the idol of man, or man’s doctrines and denominational rule. This can be entertainment “stars,” or it can be “celebrity Christians.” The worship or promotions of both of these are serious sins. It is the sin of idolatry. Many ministers fall under the curse of this sin by exalting their ministry by using social media or other digital platforms. These media outlets are often used to help ministers and ministries to promote the “self” and not the Kingdom and the Christ. And that is something to consider carefully. Many actually employ “media apostles” to do this work of self-exultation. Some of the networking that happens in the church is extremely worldly and unholy. Selah. But perhaps I digress?
New Ways of Thinking
In the original Renaissance the new ways of thinking became manifest with the human mindset in art, architecture, politics, science, religion, literature, and many other aspects of society. In the new supernatural renaissance, God is going to touch all those things (spiritual mountains) with a spiritual, heavenly, or Christ–centered mindset.
Early examples of the first Renaissance achievements were the development of perspective in oil painting and art, as well as the recycled knowledge of how to make concrete. This “rediscovery” of concrete led to many important innovations in construction and in architecture. Many of the greatest cathedrals, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian, were made possible by this renaissance development. One needs only to look at the Saint Peters Cathedral, in Rome, or even the Taj Mahal, to name just two, to see the spectacular domes which the renaissance helped to inspire and birth. There are many others too.
Although printing and the invention of metal movable type sped the dissemination of ideas from the later fifteenth century, the changes of the Renaissance were not experienced everywhere in Europe. The very first traces of printing appear in Italy as early as the late thirteenth century, in particular with the writings of Dante and the paintings other notable artists of the period. Likewise, the renaissance of the Spirit will not be experienced in all of the Body of Christ—some will not want to receive it, and yet others will not discern its arrival at all.
As a cultural movement, the first Renaissance was also marked by the development of the Latin language and other types of literature. The first Renaissance also marked the beginning of a resurgence of learning based on classical sources. Many historians site this resurgence of learning to Italian poets and humanists whose mindsets were centered on human intellect and other human attributes. In the coming new supernatural renaissance, God is going to allow His prophets to focus on the wisdom and revelations of God. The following passage describes this eminent aspect of the new Renaissance:
1 Corinthians 2:13-14:
These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Discern and Learn
This new twentieth-first century renaissance is going to be spearheaded and led by the Holy Spirit, not by man’s reasoning or man’s ideas. The Holy Spirit is going to release wisdom and revelation. And God is going to raise up renaissance men and women who are going to discern and learn to walk in heavenly wisdom and revelation as released by the precious Holy Spirit. And the Lord is going to use these new renaissance men and women to spearhead this new supernatural renaissance from the heavenly places to the earthly dimensions. Again, not everyone will wish to discern the new supernatural renaissance because many in the church are happy and comfortable with the way things are now. (Much like the spiritual leaders in the day that Jesus Christ was born and walked the earth in the first century). But God is about to shift the paradigm of the church. This will unfold much like the Lord shifted the paradigm when Jesus Christ was born (Luke 1:11,18,28).Most of the current churches and denominations are comfortable and undemanding; as a result they are not often earmarked by the love of God or the miracle working power of God and His megas dunamis or megas charis.
God Uses Human Reasoning
In science the first Renaissance started to an increased reliance on observation and inductive human reasoning. Inductive reasoning was the unconsecrated soil that many false religions and branches of modern religious pursuits grew from. These could include psychology, the medical sciences, physics, astronomy, chemistry, geology, metallurgy, the biological sciences (zoology, botany, genetics, paleontology, molecular biology, physiology), and the psychological sciences. Also other man-made technical practices flourished and blossomed from man’s carnality and intellectual reasoning. Hear my heart; I am not saying that doctors and scientists are unconsecrated or unholy. God uses men and women of science in many ways for His glory and honor.
In fact, God’s infinite wisdom has ushered in this new renaissance. However, the Lord is going to use doctors and scientists to release His kingdom. Many times these individuals will be instruments in the hand of the Lord unwittingly. In the new renaissance, God, in His infinite wisdom, will continue to use the sciences and release miracles such as the healing of the blind, various types of cancer, or Lou Gerhig’s disease as well as other sicknesses that are currently considered incurable. There are going to be breakthroughs in treatment and the healing of diseases that that will bring doctors to an understanding on how to heal—for instance, blindness. When you begin to see these medical advances; know that these are signs that the new supernatural renaissance has begun.
Genesis 1:26:
Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
God created man in His image and, as such, we are very intelligent and incredibly diverse beings. The issue becomes that our carnal minds do not always produce good things that the Holy Spirit intends for us to birth. That’s what happened with the first Renaissance. It saw many revolutions of intellectual pursuit, but they were corrupted, and they were derailed by humanistic pride, vanity, and reasoning.
New Renaissance Polymaths
Artistic advancements and many other amazing inventions, cultural, and scientific contributions were made for society as a whole by single individuals. These individuals were considered polymaths. A Renaissance polymath can be defined as a person who was given wide-ranging knowledge or learning. Martin Luther was certainly a Renaissance polymath as were as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, who inspired the term "Renaissance men." (Though, allow me to state that the Luther was in error in reference to his theology and teaching concerning the Hebrews, God’s chosen people).
Again, the Lord is currently raising up a superfluity, (a whole bunch or excessive amount) of young and fiery prophets and evangelists. These renaissance men and women are being called to be transformed into supernatural polymaths for Christ and His Kingdom! There will be a bubbling up of renaissance men and women who will come on the scene today. God will anoint them with supernatural wisdom and revelation by the Holy Spirit for certain areas of expertise. Not all of these new renaissance polymaths will be religious or even in the church. Many will be called from the secular world and will be used to create inventions that will impact the whole earth and perpetuate the spreading the Gospel of the Kingdom to the ends of the earth. All of these supernatural polymaths will none the less be called and equipped by the Lord Himself. Their inventions and ideas will be dispersed throughout the entire earth.
Many will be like the apostle Paul who was taught about the Gospel of the Kingdom in the wilderness (Galatians 1:10-12). These new supernatural polymaths will walk in God’s grace, power, and Kingdom virtues. They will minister with Christ like Humility and Nobility. They will carry the Kingdom of Heaven with and within them and will have supernatural grace and understand how simple it is to manifest heaven on earth each and every day (Matthew 6:6-16). They will preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary they may even use words.
Eternal Security and Salvation
Looking once again at Martin Luther, we find that he was ordained into the priesthood in 1507, early in the Renaissance. He came to reject several teachings and practices of the established church in Germany. In particular, he disputed the established churches views on indulgences, or a works based mentality concerning eternal security or salvation. Luther taught that salvation and eternal life are not earned by good deeds and are only to be received through human priests and other men. He taught that salvation is received only as the free gift of God's grace through the believer's faith in Christ Jesus. This was not common knowledge in the Body of Christ before the time of Luther.
Luther’s epiphany of grace was just not known or taught before this. This fact enabled the established church to have a control and great influence over people because they promoted a works based and man driven salvation. Even the Gospel was kept from people as it was mostly spoken in Latin, (which the majority of the people did not understand at all). It was the invention of the printing presses that allowed the Gospel to be disseminated to the masses in languages that they could read and understand. Because of these things, for the first time people could actually own the Word of God and study it on an individual basis as the Gospel was preached in languages the people could comprehend. That was an epiphany from the scripture. God is going to give other epiphanies like this to younger polymaths—renaissance men—in this coming new supernatural renaissance.
Martin Luther also considered and taught that all baptized Christians were indeed a holy priesthood. Those who identify with these, and all of Luther's wider teachings, are called Lutherans. Though, Luther recognized Christian or Evangelicals as acceptable names for individuals professing faith in Christ Jesus.
Again, one of the major things that earmarked Martin Luther a supernatural polymath was his work to translate the Bible into the German language from Latin. Again, this made the scripture much more accessible to the laity, or common people. For the first time ordinary people could own a copy of the Bible. The printing of the Bible into German and then later into English and dozens of other languages had a tremendous impact on both the worldwide church and society in general. Luther’s work literally turned the established church upside down! What if God raised up a whole assembly of Martin Luthers, (supernatural polymaths), today? Not only will the world to be turned upside down, but the church is going to be shaken up. Luther’s translation of the Bible from Latin into German sparked the development an English translation of the scriptures—our Bible. Again, this was a monumental development of the first Renaissance. Like the first Renaissance the whole earth is now stepping into a season of a second Renaissance in the church which will impact the entire earth for God’s glory.
